KALEIDOSCOPE THEORY for Kids

How to Teach Mindfulness to Children and Adults: MINDFULNESS KALEIDOSCOPE THEORY by Mindful Fountain

[This video has been transcribed for your convenience]

Welcome to Mindful Fountain.

So, let’s begin.  In a kaleidoscope there are 3 major parts.

The first major part is the viewing tube or the body of the kaleidoscope.    The viewing tube has 3 mirrors which cause the kaleidoscope to have a symmetrical design.  Similarly, we as humans have 3 mirrors, which make up the heart, mind and body.  The designs our mirrors create reflect our experiences in life on the inside as well as the outside.

The second major part is the Outer lens which is made up of material that reflects back light, creating patterns when we rotate the lens.  In the same way, we have lenses too – they are our 5 senses.  Depending on the way we use them, we get different picture of the world every time.  Each one is unique, just like the patterns you get from turning the lens on a kaleidoscope this way and that way.

Lastly, the third major part is the eyepiece.  The eyepiece is the only way you can actually see the really cool effects and designs of the kaleidoscope.  For us humans, the eyepiece is our focused awareness or consciousness.  It is the awareness we have of all our senses, combined with the mirrors of our heart, body and mind.  The eyepiece is what allows us to turn our attention to what we want, and away from what we don’t want.  It’s the eyepiece that lets us see the moment and experience it as we do.

We hope this video will help explain mindfulness to children or anyone else who would like to learn about mindfulness.  Mindfulness is truly for everyone and we hope you begin to see the coolest patterns in your life every day.
